Whole lotta shakin going on
We’re back!
Picking up the Danger Team storyline where we left it off… which was with an interlude courtroom scene with Bubblegum Bazooka. Which followed a ‘wandering Fremont Street in Las Vegas pondering the trail our hero has been led on’ page.
Which now leads to a diner scene, framing yet more exposition- this time about Danger Team 77, the disco team. That’s Studio 54, as we mocked up a reasonably iconic image of the time to put our cameos of 1977 personalities together.
Laverne and Shirley as ERA and EPA, Jeri Hall as Dancing Queen, Billy Carter as himself.
Speaking of personalities, panel 1 is not just drag queens and Elvises. There are also a number of cameos from our Patreon supporters, who have stuck with us even when we ended up on hiatus for 8 months, producing only our monthly pinups. So let’s give credit where credit is due, shall we?
Starting on the left is the vivacious Jenny North, who also served as story consultant and editor on GGA Volume 6: Giants of the Urth. Behind her, arms wide to proudly display his non-actionable Kongi short is the master of mighty kaiju himself, Danny Gray. Across the table from him is my nephew Maxwell Alexander, showing off his abundant ink in a tank top. Sharing the table with them, Hawaiian shirt and grin at the ready is my pal and yours, Ryan Sieroty.
There at the center table are activists, humanitarians and all around swell folks Christina and John Frost, sitting side by side at a 4-person table. They actually do this in real life, because they enjoy the closeness to one another. Genuine lovebirds.
Just off John’s shoulder to the right is Opus the Poet, who has had some challenges this year… well, most years, really. But his support is as unflagging as his spirit. Beside him is Josh Wasta, ever eerily stylish as Tony Clifton cheers him from behind.
Below Tony and beside the kicking Elvis is Jeff Neuenkirchen, looking on contemplatively as he has for years now, tirelessly supporting us and suggesting many of the pinups you have seen published. Which led to some very nice portfolios for the Kickstarter!
Finally, sitting at the table with Hawkins himself is none other than author and playwright Jack Babylon, clearly attempting to explain some heavy metaphysical shit he’s seen in Vampire County while having a smoke outside The Admiral.
Not that Hawkins is listening, but hey, that’s on him, as the man says.
We’re back to publishing weekly, every Friday on the website, every Thursday for you patrons here. And we should… SHOULD be on track to keep publishing steadily throughout this year. Time will tell.
In the meanwhile, we deeply appreciate our patrons, all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for supporting our work, and making it possible to keep the lights on and do what we do. Cheers to you!
ED’S NOTES
Maaaaaaan!!
Hawkins is getting deeper and deeper. This was just supposed to be a simple article. Just an Editor throwing a bone to a reporter who was black listed. It’s really turning into a little bit more than he originally thought.
Art imitating life, I suppose.
Only way to find out if both of us rise to the occasion? STAY TUNED!
